For the past three years, I have worked with Rick McKernan and the Downtown Optimist Club to do event photography for the Mid-Missouri Soap Box Derby. The derby is held each Summer in downtown Columbia, Missouri. The racers glide down Broadway and the winners get to compete at the All-American Soap Box Derby in Arkron, Ohio. Rick is a great coach and mentor to the young drivers and is very supportive and attentive. It’s been an honor to work Rick and the Downtown Optimist Club to document this event each year. This particular photo was shot at a low shutter speed while panning the camera to achieve a motion blur speed affect.
The photograph was taken with a Sony ILCE-7RM3 camera with a Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS lens at ƒ/9.0 with a 1/40 second exposure at ISO 80. The processing was done with Adobe Lightroom CC.
