Last month, I explored the western part of Saline County, Missouri, along Highway 65. I drove through Malta Bend, Grand Pass, and passed through Dover, Missouri. On my way, I saw a grand looking abandoned home, a two-story farmhouse in Grand Pass. I decided to stop at the dwelling and take a look around the property. I don’t usually go inside abandoned homes because of safety issues, but this house looked reasonably sturdy. I ventured inside on the first floor and noticed an auxiliary stairwell in the back, near the kitchen. What caught my eye were the coats, towels, and jackets still hanging on the coat rack on the side of the stairwell. These clothing items appeared to be untouched since the home was vacated, thereby creating a compelling presence for a photograph.
The photograph was taken with a Sony ILCE-7RM2 camera with a Sony FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM lens at ƒ/8.0 with a 3.2-second exposure at ISO 100. The processing was done with Adobe Lightroom CC.
